We’re an innovative day habilitation by Morning Star (the folks who like to do stuff differently).
Independent U is much more than a place for adult clients to go from 8 am – 4 pm on weekdays. This program is YOU driven, and PURPOSE focused.
We are a place for fostering growth and independence in individuals who have autism or other intellectual or developmental disabilities.
Because we believe you can do more. We’re just here to guide you there.
A Day of Growth Looks Like …
-Social skills activities (This could be anything. Did someone say yoga on the river? Whatever the activity may be, this is your time to make connections.)
-Community expeditions (We’re getting out every day to truly PARTICIPATE in the community. We’re not just walking around the mall. We’re packing food at the Food Bank, learning from business owners, taking art classes.)
-The 11 Categories of Independence Training (We’re learning through doing.)
-Lunch and lunch-prep
-Meetings with community members (If you want to learn to cook, learn from a real chef.)
-Time at our state-of-the-art clinic in Cape Girardeau (We’ve got arcade games and virtual reality, folks.)
-Transportation to and from the program.
